about the site
Q: so, what's with the name - "apparently nothing"?
A: "apparently nothing" is a line from '3 libras' by A Perfect Circle. it's one of my all time favourite songs, by one of my favourite bands.Q: what hardware/software and such did you use to create this site?
A: my lovely (and extremely worn) 17" powerbook titanium g4. for graphics and visual elements i'll open up adobe photoshop, adobe illustrator or flash mx. to introduce mark-up i'll go to bbedit. to post my entries, manage my archives, handle comments and all that other "blogging" goodness i use expressions (of course).Q: i like the design. can i use it?
A: glad you like it, but i'd prefer if you didn't use the exact design. although i do often use and advise using "view source" to learn how something has been done, i don't advise the copy and paste technique - that tends to piss people off. viewing source can be a great learning tool - just use it wisely.Q: web standards are important to me. does your site follow web standards?
A: not 100% (yet!). i agree that web standards are important and am learning more about it and slowly implementing better mark-up on the site to meet web standards.Q: can you recommend any books for design?
A: there are tons that i'd like to recommend, but here are a few books:
Q: who are you hosted with and do you recommend them?
A: i am fortunate enough to be hosted by the wonderful jaya. i most definitely recommend her. she has certain criteria for her hosted accounts but you can read more about that here. my photoblog and all my photos are of course hosted by expressions.Q: if i link to you, will you link to me?
A: not necessarily.Q: do you have an RSS/Atom feed?
A: i sure do! i have an atom feed for my photoblog.about the photos
Q: what camera(s) do you use?
A: i love photography. i love cameras. i currently have: my newly aquired canon eos 30D, my trusted canon powershot s30 (which is hardly ever used), my 35mm canon eos rebel ti (which is gathering dust) and my more-recently-used holga 120. i also have a new pinholga that was a gift from susan which i have yet to try!Q: you mention a "lomo effect" and i see it in your archives. what is it?
A: the "lomo effect" is actually a lomo photoshop action that i downloaded from redscreen (his site is no longer active). it's a fabulous action with various options to give your photo a "lomo feel". i am still dying to purchase my own lomo and one day i shall. for now, the "lomo effect" satiates my lomo-lust.Q: can i buy a print of one of your photographs?
A: why, yes you can! under any photo that is available to purchase (some photos are not available), you will see a "purchase print" option. click on this and go ahead and order a print. you will need to have a PayPal account to process the order. if you have any questions just drop me a line.Q: can you recommend any books for photography?
A: there are really so many, and i have many that i still need to get to, but here are just a few i'd recommend:
about the girl
Q: so you're south african huh? do you have an accent?
A: yes, i am proudly south african. and yes, somewhat. living in the usa for 6 years and now in the uk for about three years has resulted in a rather mixed accent.Q: do you use any quirky s.a slang words?
A: sometimes. here are a few you may see here and there:chuffed : proud, pleased, happy, impressed
just now : could mean in a minute, could mean in 3 days
howzit : hi/how are you/how is it going
braai : bbq
chuck : to leave, to depart
dankie : thank you
shot! / shot dot! : thank you
flip! : drat!
lank : a lot
park off : to relax, to chill out
ja nee : means, "yes no". example: "ya nee, i'm off to the movies", means "i'm going to the movies"

this site is powered by expressions and my general sanity is kept together by my very patient hubby.i use apparentlynothing.com as my own personal space. i am not a writer. my spelling is sometimes atrocious. we won't even begin to ponder my grammar. the thoughts and images expressed here are my own and may fluctuate at any time. most of the time it is best to not take me too seriously. i am quite opinionated when it comes to certain things that i believe strongly in though. if you disagree with something i say, that's fine. if you disagree vehemently with something i say, that's fine too and i suggest you simply guide your pointer over to the "back" button located on your browser and click away. i don't expect people to agree with me so feel free to comment your own thoughts etc. just play nice.
